Eastern Wind of Change over Africa

(My gratitude to all those freedom fighters, who
never gave up.)

It Was the eastern Wind of change.
All over Europe the breathing Was cool
Though many had to sacrifice their lives.
In Africa, We had the illusion,
The illusion that
We Were also part of the World.
We thought the time had finally come for freedom.
From Nyame to Tananarive,
We marched in the streets
Crying FREEDOM!
We were listened to by
Kerekou, NGuessou, Amadou Toumani Toure.
Unfortunately, there were also
Abacha, Mobutu, Eyadema, Bíya, and others.
They refused to organize a national conference.
They refused to organize a round table.
They refused to organize free and fair elections.
They called us anarchists.
We were killed, tortured, murdered, and sent to jail
As they said,
To save the country.

The country We only Wanted to better.
Those who escaped are now Wondering,

Wondering because it’s difïìcult.

Dificult to explain Why,
Why We gave so much for so little.
